Each discipline and performer has their particular requirements, but the same principles of creativity coupled with practicality and durability remain. For fire performers, I have access to Nomex ® - a lightweight, stretchy and inherently fire retardent fabric in various colours.
Following requests for generically useful items, I am currently working on designs for arm length fire-retardent gloves, a basic universal stilt trouser and fire-retardent frilled skirts for flaming hula.
A note concerning materials:
It is part of my business principles to use ethical and sustainable materials where possible. For costuming, I acknowledge that this is not always possible for the budget and/or physical characteristics required. Where there is negligible difference in cost and performance, I will use ethical materials, where cost is an issue the decision of course rests with the client.
For the same reasons, garments may be made using some reclaimed, reused or recycled materials. This should in no way affect quality or durability.
